Weekend Review - Vol. 52

December 24-30, 2021

Welcome to a special weekend review - Holiday Edition!! I'm going to go through the Christmas holidays and the in-between week!

On Christmas Eve we got up early to get the day started! Stopped at the dog park on our way down to get some of Millie's energy out. Sometimes she barks at passing semi trucks on the highway (not a good habit lol) but we've found she does much better if she's a little tired right before getting in the car.

We drove to my parents house first. We had brunch and decorated cookies with my family! It was so sweet.

Then we spent the afternoon and evening with Dan's family. My cookie boxes were well-received! The picture above is how many I put together :) They even got a cookie tower display. ~fancy~ We had a pasta dinner, opened gifts, and spent some really nice time together!

On Christmas Day we spent the day with my family! We had breakfast, relaxed, and opened gifts with lots of help from my nephews. Dinner was delicious - in addition to our fave family dishes, I made some spinach lasagna rolls for Dan & I with a white sauce and it was great! We ended with pies from Honeypie here in Milwaukee - we did a mixed berry and a salted caramel, and, holy moly. They were soooo good! The salted caramel had cream cheese in it so it really had the texture/flavor of cheesecake which was incredible.

Sunday I got brunch with one of my best friends from college! We got takeout from Anne Sather's in Chicago. The cinnamon rolls were insane! Then we drove back to Milwaukee.

Monday was an organize/regroup day, lol. I also went out to Aldi (our fridge/pantry was cleared out!). I made some lentil pasta sauce, and also spent some time decluttering as I put stuff away! I feel like new stuff in, old stuff out, right? Especially living in a one bedroom apartment....our space is limited!

Tuesday was another chill day. It snowed a little bit but nothing stuck near us, especially since it started sleeting near the end of the storm! We also started playing a new Mario game (but we prefer to play as Toad and Toadette, lol). It's been fun to play it while sitting under my new heated blanket :)

Wednesday we took a hike out at Lapham Peak! We ordered our new state park pass last week, woo woo. We were expecting it to be a little muddy after the snow/rain on Tuesday, but there was actually an inch or two on the ground out in Delafield. There were tons of cross-country skiers out which was fun to see!

However, the best part was Millie's absolute JOY to be out in the snow. She had a lot of running around to do. We can't wait to see her in deeper, more intense snow. Hopefully she likes it just as much.

Wednesday evening I watched I Love Trouble (the Nancy Meyers movie) with a friend! We are making our way through her whole filmography. This one was a little crazier than I was expecting but I really liked it!

Thursday I had to go out for some errands and stopped at Aldi and Trader Joe's. I tried one of the Barebell bars after hearing some people talk about them online. I got the hazelnut nougat kind - 6.5/10. Dan gave it a 7/10. I spent some time baking Thursday afternoon and then we volunteered at the Wisconsin Humane Society (our usual Thursday night). We hopped on a Zoom call with some friends in the evening and played some games!

And here we are at Friday :) hope you're having a relaxing, restful, and fun holiday break! Cheers to the new year!
