Weekend Review - Vol. 18

April 30-May 1, 2022

Hey hey! How are you? We had a fun and busy weekend this weekend.

We drove down to Illinois late Thursday night to start our weekend. We worked remotely on Friday, and then Friday night, we went to United Center to see John Mayer! I love John Mayer, unabashedly. It was a great concert! We both loved it, and also we had really great parking lol. The people we were sitting next to were very interesting. But otherwise, such a fun night!

Saturday morning we went to H Mart! I have been reading Crying in H Mart and loving it, and of course wanted to visit the namesake. We don't have any in Milwaukee, so we took advantage and visited while in Illinois. I had the best time ever, omg. I loved looking at all the fun snacks, pre-made food, the drinks, the produce. Amazing!! I had done some research ahead of time and had a list of things I was interested in trying which helped as I had a few things to specifically look for. Some of the things we ended up getting were shin-yun ramen, honey butter chips, Kokuho Rose rice, egg chips, fish ice cream sandwiches, gochujang, choco pies, rice vinegar, a few other things, and several pre-made side dishes, like noodles, spicy crab sushi, and mung bean pancakes. So exciting!! We have tried some of the items like the ramen, rice, and ice cream sandwiches and so far everything has been excellent. However, the best part of going to H Mart was the cafeteria that is connected to it. There are several vendor stall selling a variety of food like boba tea, pastries, noodle dishes, and tteokbokki. We ordered some cup-bap, and it was incredible!! It was a layer of rice, noodles, and then vegetables (ours was iceberg lettuce and broccoli), tofu, and a sriracha mayo + teriyaki sauce. And two dumplings on top! I am still thinking about this meal.

We dropped off our groceries and then took Millie to the dog park to get in some running before it started to rain. I did a quick return to the mall and then we had dinner with Dan's family. By this time it was really raining! And the sky was that weird yellow-ish green-ish color.

On Sunday we got up and got ready to go to Champaign! My college band professor was having her final concert at UIUC, and we wanted to drive down to see it. We carpooled with some friends which always make the drive go by fast! When we got to Champaign we had lunch first at Maize. I got a burrito and we shared some queso fundido! Soooo good. One of our absolute favorite CU spots. Then we went to the concert! It was amazing! And we got to say hi to so many old friends and teachers. We made the drive back to Downers Grove, then picked up Millie and headed back to Milwaukee. It was a long day, but so fun.
